John Oakes on Day 2

The 2010 Cabelas National Team Championship was held June 5 & 6 on the Lake Winnebago system in Oshkosh Wisconsin.  The tournament was combined with the Masters Walleye Circuit and set a new world record for the largest open water fishing tournament ever held in the world with 362 boats competing for over $300,000 in cash and two Ranger Boats!  Most local teams that competed spent a week trying to master this 137,000 acre body of water.  The walleye fishing was very tough, most anglers caught 30-100 silver bass and sheephead per day in hopes that 5 good walleyes would be mixed in as well.  Most teams trolled spinners and crankbaits over the mud flats suspended to get their fish.  Top honors went to Mike Galligan and Stuart Wells of Oshkosh Wisconsin with 10 walleyes weighing 26.24 pounds.  Local teams were lead by Brent Hasslen and John Oakes weighing 8 fish for 14.78 pounds and good for a $300 paycheck.  Jim Hartman and Paul Amdahl finished one spot out of the money in 51st place with 12.36 pounds.  Other locals were Todd Kuefler and Monte Athey in 121st place, Artie Arndt and Dan Sunne in 140th place, Nate Huebner and Jay Sandess in 152nd place, Dave and Jackson Graf in 159th place and Rich Huebner and Mike Oletzke in 183rd place.  These local teams qualified for the championship through the Big Stone Walleye League and the Border Walleye Challenge.  For complete results go to Walleye Central.

Paul Amdahl – 4.96lb Walleye

  1. Almost nothing better than a fishing joke. My sister just shared this joke with me: How much fishing tackle can a man accumulate before his wife throws him out? I don’t know the answer but I think I’m nearly there.
